Fast & Furious Book Promotion ReviewThe book is literate but barely useful to anyone with even a basic knowledge of the Internet. The author makes his living in the self-publishing field at ZDocs and his idea of promoting a book is to promote a self-published book with the barest of details. Instead of "Fast and Furious" the book would have been better titled "Make me money by using my company to self publish your book." 42 Rules for Driving Success With Books: Success Stories of Corporate and Author Thought Leadership ReviewThis book is reminiscent of junk mail that entices a reader to buy more based upon repetitive success stories and promises to show the secrets that 'they' don't want you to know. Each spurious rule (eg. 'brand yourself', 'build your confidence') is represented by a different author who writes around 300-400 words illustrating in the most indirect way possible the result of what happened when they followed the extraordinarily-vague rule, while also plugging their website or product.
I think my favorite is rule #19 - "Get a Ph.D." - which, apart from being irrelevant to driving success with books, fails to mention a Ph.D. at all in the subsequent explanation. "Books, if they're useful, informative, and well written, encourage people to send work to you," enthuses Shel Horowitz in a blinding example of the obvious. "When you have a book, you pretty much have automatic access to (and exposure on) high-traffic websites such as Amazon.com and Google.com," he continues, failing to mention that this has no bearing on your own website unless the book is popular, and has nothing to do with how SEO actually works.
As a 140 page book, 40 pages are dedicated to the photographs and bios of each author, together with an invitation to write your own 42 rules book, and the catalog of other books available. Take away the introduction and table of contents, and this is a very, very thin read which offers absolutely no substantive information to prospective authors. I agree with the other review entitled "No Value" - I haven't quite figured out if this is a pyramid scheme or some other type of marketing game, but I'd strongly advise against wasting $20 on this. How to Sell Anything on Amazon...and Make a Fortune ReviewI have been selling on Amazon for over four years, and I learned how to do everything as I went along. While I have been successful, some mistakes were made. Nothing serious, but there were a few instances of negative feedback and lost revenue that were a direct consequence of what I did wrong. Therefore, with my experience, there was very little in this book that was even slightly new to me.
However, if you are thinking about selling on Amazon or are just getting started, then this is a book that you should read. It will take you through all of the steps in getting an account started and explain how to manage your account. There are a large number of screenshots, so one can argue that the detail is too fine. I do not accept that argument, it is always better to include one shot too many than leave out one that could be critical to someone. I estimate that if I had read this book when I was just starting out selling on Amazon, I would have avoided mistakes that cost me in the neighborhood of $100 of lost revenue. Therefore, at a retail cost of $24.95, it would have returned the investment fourfold.
The advanced features of selling on Amazon are also covered. Starting and managing auctions, how to establish a zShop, marketing yourself on Amazon, paid placements, selling intellectual property, how to take advantage of Amazon's international sites and how to become an Amazon associate are all examined in sufficient detail. Important details like getting an ISBN number for your own book are included in the coverage. I strongly recommend this book if you are in the early stages of selling on Amazon.
