Management Theory and Practice ReviewI recently used the book in a structured class environment with my MBA students. The theory section of the book (Part One) was somewhat relevant to the class. Part Two (Management in Practice) was very relevant and the students engaged very well in the class as a result. I particularly appreciated how the subsections in each chapter is organized.
Very simple and straight forward to read. I think this edition is very good, and perhaps can use an upgrade especially in light of post 2009 development.

Why We Shop: Emotional Rewards and Retail Strategies ReviewAs a scholarly work this would fail due to a lack of sources for the many facts cited within. Although I think its target audience is the general public, sources for further reading would be helpful.
Pooler presents an overview of consumer psychology, which mainly equates to common sense. The book is worthwhile reading but should be read in addition to some more scholarly works on consumer psychology or at least some fact books.Why We Shop: Emotional Rewards and Retail Strategies Overview

New Media: A Critical Introduction ReviewThis is a great textbook that discusses new media and the technological revolution. There are many theories discussed and many case studies to review to get a better picture of how technology has evolved and affected our lives. A couple things I don't like about this book are that it lacks updated information in today's world (blogs, social networking, mobile devices & future technology). The pictures in the book are all black and white and there is a picture of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and the old version of the XBOX. There is no mention of Safari, Firefox or Linux o/s. I think this book was made in 2003 and I know that technology changes very quickly, it is 2010, iPhone 4, Facebook, Twitter, Kinect and iPad are not mentioned at all. Overall it is a good book to read if you are really interested in new media but if not you will find it difficult to read through the technical terms and jargon.New Media: A Critical Introduction Overview

Internet Marketing for Psychologists: Advertising and Promoting Your Business Online Using a Website, Search Engine Marketing, Social Media, Google, ... Angie's List, LinkedIn, SEO, and More ReviewI'll begin by acknowledging that Nick Holliday is a dear friend. That said, he has written a very informative book outlining the basics of online marketing. If you're looking to gain more referrals via online marketing, you need to read this book. Having built my own website, I thought I would be reading the book with a significant head start on internet marketing. I am happy to say that this was not the case - Nick's ideas were brand new to me, as they will be to most therapists who've had little to no formal training on marketing strategy.
As a licensed psychologist in private practice, I can comment directly on this book's effectiveness at helping build a practice. Prior to reading Nick's book, my website was the only means of online marketing that I utilized (and poorly, as I found out by reading the book). By following the easy-to-read, click-by-click directions, I revamped my site and added several social media outlets to my online presence. The results have been impressive; since following the strategies suggested in the book, I've received nearly 20 new referrals over the last three to four months that came solely from online sources. My site now ranks on the first page of Google searches for several relevant keywords.
Nick writes in a down-to-earth, easily accessible style. In what could be an overwhelming presentation of information, he distills important points and provides resources for learning more in-depth strategies if you're interested.
Most importantly, you can follow the step-by-step instructions in this book (easily completed in a "working weekend") and go to the office on Monday morning knowing that you've taken a huge leap forward in gaining new clients. No one uses the yellow pages anymore - you need an online presence.
