eBay PowerSeller Million Dollar Ideas: Innovative Ways to Make Your eBay Sales Soar ReviewI've been waiting for this book for SIX months!
If you read the first book by Brad and Debra Schepp (eBay Power Seller Secrets) You'll love this book, if you didn't read the first book, eBay Powerseller Secrets, I highly advise that you buy both! Brad and Debra Schepp write with an easy to read style. I feel these two books have more value than the other 40 eBay and ecommerce books I have on my shelf. I like the fact that this book delves deeper into the culture of eBay sellers than most other eBay books.
You won't find anything about the SYI form or how to list your item. This book is far more advanced and gives you insight into who the successful PowerSellers are on eBay and why, it may as well be the who's who of eBay PowerSellers. Brad and Debra are associate members of the Professional eBay Seller's Alliance, they seem to have the inside track on everything eBay. They even write for the auction industry news authority Auctionbytes.
Unlike other authors that pretend to be experienced eBay experts, Brad and Debra don't, they bring you the stories and facts from the experts in a far more valuable format that reads more like entertainment than a boring business instruction book. I do advise that when you sit down to read this book to have highlighter or sticky notes handy, the concepts fly at you and you can't put this book down, do yourself a favor and mark the spots when you have those million dollar AHA moments while reading. Instead of getting the perspective of just an author, Brad and Debra bring you the perspectives of many different sellers. Brad and Debra put some soul and personality into the book bringing wisdom from what appears to be over 100 of the top sellers on eBay.
They touch quite a few topics that are near and dear to my heart.
How to find products (the simple and cheap way)
Multi Channel Sales (Our New Mantra)
The future of listing enhancements (Free pictures, audio and even video)
Google Adwords, Froogle and Gbase.
Your eBay community and interaction with it. (Sharing with others produces returns)
Bonus section (Top 500 sellers and the top 200 fastest growing sellers on eBay)
Brad and Deb's first book eBay Powerseller Secrets:Insider Tips from eBay's Most Successful Sellers encouraged me to start my own me page and helped develop processes that I use today. They are solid no bull writers that practice what they preach, I'm sure if they wanted to , with all the information they have gathered, they could be one of the top ten sellers on eBay, but you can definitely tell when reading their books that their passion is writing about eBay and technology, they capture the soul of eBay and bind it for you. If I could only have one eBay book, this would be it.

Starting a Yahoo Business For Dummies ReviewFirst of all, let me start by saying that I have been using Yahoo Store since 1998, and have run an ecommerce business full time since 1999, when I quit my day job.
I picked up a copy of this book to give to a friend who was starting up a Yahoo Merchant Solutions site to sell online. I figured it would be a good way to give them a reference guide so that they wouldn't have to ask me 10 million questions about how to add a new product, or how to upload a photo, etc.
I bought the book without even looking inside. But I started flipping through it the day before I was going to give the book away. Once I realized how great the book was, I ended up keeping it and buying a different copy for my friend!
This book covers all the basics for people who don't know much about getting started.
But more importantly, it has a ton of really great high level strategies and tactics that even someone like me who has been using Yahoo Store for almost 10 years can use.
In fact, one specific part of the book about the cross selling feature made me realize I was approaching cross selling all wrong.
I spent about two hours making some changes to my Yahoo Store, and the store made an additional $10,387.42 in cross sells in the 90 days following those changes. (Yes, that's a real number. Any Yahoo Store will run a simple report to look it up, and that's what I just did.)
That's just ONE thing I learned from the book. I have a list of 16 other changes that I am starting to implement because of what I learned.
Ideas like optimizing my photos better, creating more buyer guides, improving my About Us page, improving the checkout pages, etc. And I haven't even re-read the book yet.
In summary: This book is not just for beginners! You're going to find good stuff in it even if you're a pro.

Electronic Commerce ReviewHaving to pick this book up for a class, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the book was. It's pretty easy to read, there is a ton of information in it, and it's very helpful if you want to start a business online. It's up-to-date too, so you aren't getting weird dot-com info, and you are reading about how some companies failed. All-in-all, it's a good book that I recommend.Electronic Commerce Overview

Mastering the Digital Marketplace: Practical Strategies for Competitiveness in the New Economy ReviewThis book is NOT about eCommerce explicitly. Rather it is a sound work on the threats and opportunities presented by the all pervasive and ever expanding world of technology. Thankfully, it is not hysterical in tone urging you to rush out there and engage the nearest management consultant you can find, (the authour is one) but rather the book goes to great lengths to make the point that, if the technology is available to add value, then you'd better take advantage of it because your competitors will. The theme of adding value "as perceived by the customer" is really the major issue for the first half of the book. To substantiate this warning the book outlines the major themes of adding value to goods and services with several examples of how to do so. I felt the best section was on the importance of company structure and alignment along core competancies - the Value Based Organisation and how to achieve it, esp. Ch.9. The book is full of real-life and fictional case studies to illustrate each point it makes. It is written in plain english and is mostly jargon free. Do I have a criticism? Yes - Within Ch.9, one of the action points is for a company to have, or have had ABC - Activity Based Costing, the text makes a minor inflection that ABC is tough to implement - I have worked on a project putting in ABC - it is an utter nightmare!But all in all, very sound, accurate and GVFM.Mastering the Digital Marketplace: Practical Strategies for Competitiveness in the New Economy Overview

Velocity 2.0 ReviewWhether you are a dealer, work for a dealer or work for any company that operates in or around the world of used vehicle sales, do not start out 2010 without reading what Dale Pollak has to offer in Velocity 2.0.

The principles put forth are your best road map for navigating the intersection of the now-efficient used vehicle markets and the Internet. In reading each clearly presented section, you begin to understand that the principles are based on experience plus deep study and thought on the author's part.

Will your background, experience or current operating structure cause you to challenge some of what is put forth? Possibly, but you better have your data together. Dale has his concisely presented and gets across to the reader not only the "what" of velocity principles and how they work but the "why" . . . . then supports it all with real world examples of success. An add-on bonus for readers is the look into the author's "crystal ball" (Yes, I couldn't help but jump to that chapter). Just that glimpse into the future will reinforce why grasping the value of paint and pixel metrics is important to your business future.

In essence, if used cars are your business, it's all in there. You will simply need to take it in and then make your choice on how to have the efficiencies and volatility of the market work for you rather than against you.Velocity 2.0 Overview

The Complete E-Commerce Book:Design, Build & Maintain a Successful Web-based Business ReviewThis book was a pretty big disappointment and obviously written before the Net bubble burst. I am very surprised by all the 5-star reviews here... makes one go hmmm...
First, the book is out of date already. Published in the beginning of 2000 means it was written in 1999 and it shows. Many of the links are dead, or the businesses have changed their focus or been taken over by someone else. The recommendations are for the time when venture capital was plenty and business plans were optional. Those days are over...
Second, this book is geared to a millionaire who has big bucks to blow. There is information on servers and RAID redudancy that is too detailed for the non-techie and too shallow for the tech savvy. I doubt many people starting up an e-business today are looking to spend close to a million. They are looking for a "guerilla" style e-commerce book to get up and running under a few thousand dollars. And, yes, it can be done! I guess I'll have to write that book if no one else does.
Third, this book is poorly edited with incorrect subject/verb agreement and accept/except style grammatical confusion. Unfortunately I have come to expect poor editing in programming books, but c'mon, this is a book written for a general audience without coding... get a decent editor!
I do give this book one star over the minimum because it does contain some good material but it is not worth buying. Find it in a library or bookstore to copy the useful information as it is not useful as a reference or worth a close read.The Complete E-Commerce Book:Design, Build & Maintain a Successful Web-based Business Overview

"Call for Action" focuses on how we can improve the conversion rates. Not from a technical or academic or conceptual standpoint. Instead it takes a rare PRACTICAL and down-to-earth approach on how to improve conversion rates to improve sales and thus profits.
What is CONVERSION? Virtually all websites have a persuasive purpose; to get someone to subscribe, to register, to inquire or to buy something. And if all we get is 2-5 per cent conversion, we ought to review our website. Do we offer a product or service that could meet the needs of more than 2-5 per cent of the market? Can visitors find that, solution on the website? Do they understand our offer's value? Was it made at the right time? Are we sure they're coming back?
NAVIGATION is the biggest challenge websites face, the authors argue. The issues are: What to do with the traffic once it lands on the website? How to get visitors to take the first action and click deeper? And once there, how to induce visitors to click to the next step, and the next, and the next?
The fundamental idea is that a PERSUASIVE ARCHITECTURE links a visitor's buying experience to our company's sales process. It bridges the buy/sell process in a measurable way. If you can influence visitor behaviour and empathize with visitor motivations, you can influence results to provide a better experience and more frequent, effective conversions.
The book is filled with illustrative screen dumps of websites (before and after a change). This is a great benefit of such a how-to field book on e-commerce improvements. In my opinion, most e-commerce sites can recover the book's cost price in a few days just by following one or two of the practical suggestions in the many diverse case studies.
The primary focus of this book is e-Commerce. The key messages on conversion, however, are important to anyone running a large website.
This is a rare book. I've been involved in e-commerce since 1997 and read many interesting books on this topic. But I've never found such a practical approach to optimising e-commerce web sites as this one.
The brothers Eisenberg call themselves "wizards of web". I agree and hope my existing and future competitors don't read and act on this book. These secret formulas to improve online results are very effective, indeed.
If you're looking for a conceptual e-commerce theory, please look somewhere else. This is about the nuts and bolts about making money with an e-commerce web site. If you don't have or don`t plan to have such a website; forget about this book. Then it's a waste of time.
I also recommend Jakob Nielsen's books on web usability and Steve Krug's easy-to-read "Don't make me think".
