Starting a Yahoo Business For Dummies ReviewFirst of all, let me start by saying that I have been using Yahoo Store since 1998, and have run an ecommerce business full time since 1999, when I quit my day job.
I picked up a copy of this book to give to a friend who was starting up a Yahoo Merchant Solutions site to sell online. I figured it would be a good way to give them a reference guide so that they wouldn't have to ask me 10 million questions about how to add a new product, or how to upload a photo, etc.
I bought the book without even looking inside. But I started flipping through it the day before I was going to give the book away. Once I realized how great the book was, I ended up keeping it and buying a different copy for my friend!
This book covers all the basics for people who don't know much about getting started.
But more importantly, it has a ton of really great high level strategies and tactics that even someone like me who has been using Yahoo Store for almost 10 years can use.
In fact, one specific part of the book about the cross selling feature made me realize I was approaching cross selling all wrong.
I spent about two hours making some changes to my Yahoo Store, and the store made an additional $10,387.42 in cross sells in the 90 days following those changes. (Yes, that's a real number. Any Yahoo Store will run a simple report to look it up, and that's what I just did.)
That's just ONE thing I learned from the book. I have a list of 16 other changes that I am starting to implement because of what I learned.
Ideas like optimizing my photos better, creating more buyer guides, improving my About Us page, improving the checkout pages, etc. And I haven't even re-read the book yet.
In summary: This book is not just for beginners! You're going to find good stuff in it even if you're a pro.

Success Secrets of the Online Marketing Superstars ReviewI bought this book for my wife but after having looked at it I should have bought some flowers instead.
The book was bilge water but for those who watch the gurus of e-marketing the classic formula for e-book selling has been followed to the letter.
Really great ad copy to move the book (sell the sizzle not the steak) and use the book as a thinly veiled advertisement pushing the products of all the gurus who "generously" supplied content.
For the unititiated I would suggest this. Go to each of the websites of those marketers mentioned in the book or the teaser copy. What you will find is the same names popping up on all of the different websites. This is because they each act as an endorsement for the others product.
Go to Mitch's website and you will see the "usual suspects" endorsing this book as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then go to one of their's and you will find Mitch endorsing their product as the greatest thing since sliced bread. It takes a while to spot the mechanics but before to long you to will learn the secrect too cross-plugging and expert endorsements for fame and fortune.
It reminds me a little of the old Shakesperian acting troupes where the same five or six actors toured together. In each play it was the same actors only playing different parts.
I also suspect that those who have provided glowing reviews are either new to this game or are schmoozing for an endorsement of their own product by one of the big fish.
Bottom line- save your money. And remember how this game works the next time you get one of those "You've just got to see this" emails touting a new product from one of the "usual suspects".
This is how you take dishwater and turn it into an overnight best seller. Which ever one of these guys who's turn it is to shear the sheep this month simply has the other guys who are waiting their turn at bat blast their mail list with a glowing revue and a "to good to resist" offer. The groupies and the newbies fork out the shekels enmasse while the gurus begin work on their sheep shearing best seller.Success Secrets of the Online Marketing Superstars Overview

Rather it is a sound work on the threats and opportunities presented by the all pervasive and ever expanding world of technology. Thankfully, it is not hysterical in tone urging you to rush out there and engage the nearest management consultant you can find, (the authour is one) but rather the book goes to great lengths to make the point that, if the technology is available to add value, then you'd better take advantage of it because your competitors will. The theme of adding value "as perceived by the customer" is really the major issue for the first half of the book. To substantiate this warning the book outlines the major themes of adding value to goods and services with several examples of how to do so. I felt the best section was on the importance of company structure and alignment along core competancies - the Value Based Organisation and how to achieve it, esp. Ch.9. The book is full of real-life and fictional case studies to illustrate each point it makes. It is written in plain english and is mostly jargon free. Do I have a criticism? Yes - Within Ch.9, one of the action points is for a company to have, or have had ABC - Activity Based Costing, the text makes a minor inflection that ABC is tough to implement - I have worked on a project putting in ABC - it is an utter nightmare!But all in all, very sound, accurate and GVFM.Mastering the Digital Marketplace: Practical Strategies for Competitiveness in the New Economy Overview

e-Riches 2.0: Next-Generation Marketing Strategies for Making Millions Online ReviewScott Fox' first book, Internet Riches, changed the way people thought about online marketing and building a legitimate business online. Scott Fox personal resume and credibility speaks for itself, having worked with Bill O'Reilly, Larry King and everyone in between.
What I most like about Scott and E-Riches is his approach. There are two key principles here: he explains concepts specifically and in plain English and two, he is a businessman and not just an online marketer. He has actually used the strategies that he reveals in detail to build his own online businesses with enormous success. So, again, credibility. Unlike most marketing authors, he has actually walked the walk.
E-Riches is an extraordinary book, full of key insights and specific "how to" recommendations to actually promote your business online and achieve measurable results in a short time period.
The chapters on E-Mail Publishing strategies are worth the investment in the book alone. I have personally used them with my own online businesses and can tell you from personal experience they work.
I am a professional SEO (Internet Marketing) Consultant myself and have a great deal of experience in the field. I only wish I could communicate what can often be complex topics with such clarity.
The latest rage, of course, is Social Media Marketing. For many of my clients, that's the first thing out of their mouth when we sit down to talk. Most people really don't understand what social media is, let alone how to use it in marketing their business. You will after you read this book.
E-Riches takes you through a high level view of how social media pertains to your business all the way through getting the most out of using MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn and others. You will even learn how to build your own Social Network Customer Community.
E-Riches is structured in a practical, easy to follow layout with each section detailing an important set of related strategies.
Part One: Learn how marketing has changed and the new rules are paramount to your success in business today.
Part Two: Email Strategies
Part Three: Social Media Marketing Success Strategies (LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace)
Part Four: Blogging for success, including success tips for using Twitter
Part Five: Getting the most out of online public relations
Part Six: Profiting from online broadcasting- EXCELLENT discussion of how to easily and affordably use video and podcasts to drive more traffic to your website
Part Seven: A quick discussion of pay per click marketing. Not much time is spent on this topic as E-Riches focuses much more on affordable and effective marketing strategies, not paid advertising. For great PPC training, I recommend anything by Perry Marshall.
Part Eight: This last part ties it all together and teaches you how to measure your success.
Looking at the above topics that are covered in plain English it is impossible to not find several specific marketing strategies that will propel you sales online, build your online credibility and increase traffic to your website exponentially.
If I sound enthusiastic about this book it's because I am. I make my living in the fascinating world of online marketing. I am not a theorist, if the strategies I implement for myself and my client don't work, I'm out of business.
I have personally used the specific marketing tactics E-Riches covers with very impressive results.
I hope you enjoy this book, you will quickly learn that you can market yourself and your business online without breaking the bank. And, you'll have a lot of fun doing it!

YouTube for Business: Online Video Marketing for Any Business Review
I loved this book. It is well outlined and well written. And it is very topical in today's business marketing world where small businesses can use YouTube to enhance their online marketing efforts significantly. The book has 16 chapters divided into the following five parts:
I. Marketing your business online with YouTube (1-3)
II. Producing Your YouTube Videos (4-8)
III. Managing Your YouTube Videos (9-11)
IV. Working with YouTube Video Blogs (12-13)
V. Promotion and Monetization (14-16)
And each Part is concluded with a "Profile" which applied what had been discussed in the chapters preceding it. I found these profiles very helpful and informative. Not too long ago I read and reviewed "Show Me: Marketing with Video on the Internet" (ISBN: 1884230016). I had high hopes for that book and wanted it to be like the instant book being reviewed. Unfortunately it fell short of my expectations. However, after reading "YouTube for Business" this other book might be a good companion read?
Internet marketing today seems to be about putting together successful ways to generate traffic to your company or nonprofit Web site. You can do this by performing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques. You can do this by creating lots of content pages in your Web site. You can do this by writing articles and posting them on free article-posting sites online. Each article will have a by-line directing traffic back to your site. You can generate traffic by creating one (or more than one) blog which will direct traffic back to your site. And after reading this book you can generate traffic by creating simple videos you post on YouTube that will direct viewers back to your Web site.
The really neat thing about YouTube traffic generation is that it not only generates traffic, but it allows you to get your face and voice in front of people as though you were standing there talking with them. You can become three-dimensional rather than just two.
My favorite part of the book was Part II where the author goes into some depth into how to produce videos for posting on YouTube. And it is these same videos you will want to paste into your main Web site and your blog posts. I highly recommend this book for just about any small business owner who wants to make a name for themselves better and quicker. 5 stars!

Long Tail, The, Revised and Updated Edition: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More Review
Note: The review that follows is of the revised and updated edition of a book that was first published in 2006. It offers essentially the same information and insights except that Anderson has added a new chapter on marketing, one in which he explains "how to sell where `selling' doesn't work." More about this chapter later.
In the October 2004 issue of Wired magazine, Chris Anderson published an article in which he shared these observations: "(1) the tail of available variety is far longer than we realize; (2) it's now within reach economically; (3) all those niches, when aggregated, can make up a significant market - seemed indisputable, especially backed up with heretofore unseen data." That is even truer today than it was when The Long Tail was first published years ago. The era that Anderson characterizes as "a market of multitudes" continues to grow in terms of both its nature and extent. In this book, Anderson takes his reader on a guided tour of this market as he explains what the probable impact the new market will have and what will be required to prosper in it.
According to Anderson, those who read the article saw the Long Tail everywhere, from politics to public relations, and from sheet music to college sports. "What people intuitively grasped was that new efficiencies in distribution, manufacturing, and marketing were changing the definition of what was commercially viable across the board. The best way to describe these forces is that they are turning unprofitable customers, products, and markets into profitable ones." Therefore, the story of the Long Tail is really about the economics of abundance: "what happens when the bottlenecks that stand between supply and demand in our culture start to disappear and everything becomes available to everyone."
If I understand Anderson's most important points (and I may not), they include these:
1. Make as much as possible available to as many people as possible.
2. Help them to locate what they need, quickly and easily.
3. Offer maximum inventory only online.
4. Customize supply chain in terms of niche markets
5. Maximize its efficiencies and economies (especially inventory control, order processing, and distribution,)
5. Be customer-driven in terms of "crowdsourcing"
6. Have strategy that separates content into its component parts (i.e. "microchunking")
7. Have a pricing strategy that is "elastic" (i.e. based on the ROI of fulfillment per product per niche).
8. Have an open source business model for information sharing.
9. In markets where scarcity exists, "guesstimate" costs, margins, sales, profits, etc.
10.Where there is abundant competition, let those markets "sort it all out."
These and other points can guide and inform decision makers as they struggle to compete profitably during the era of "long-tailed distributions," when culture is unfiltered by economic scarcity and high technology is turning mass markets into millions of niches. Anderson provides invaluable advice with regard to how minimize the cost of reaching, penetrating, and then developing a multiple of niche markets. The paradigm has shifted from selling more in fewer markets to selling less in more markets but also, key point, selling as much as possible within as many segments as possible -- and prudent -- within those markets.
With regard to the new chapter, Anderson devotes much of his attention to online marketing and suggests that critical issues to address include these:
Who's influential "in our space (and how we know)"
Who/what influences them
How to get Digged
Effective blogging
Using beta-test invite lists
The art of begging for links
"Link bait" (e.g. stunts, contests, gimmicks, memes)
How to view the Web? "Forget it as a marketplace of products, and instead think of it as a marketplace of opinion. It's the great leveler of marketing. It allows for niche products to get global attention. Most products will be sold offline, as they always were. But in years to come, more and more products will be marketed online, taking advantage of Web methods to fine-slice consumer groups and influence word of mouth more effectively than ever before in history. Not all industries lend themselves to an infinite variety of products, but all industries have an infinite variety of customers. Finally we can treat them like the individuals they are. It's the sunset of the thirty-second spot."
There are several reasons why Anderson believed there is a need for a revised and updated edition. Here are two. Because the earlier version became a bestseller, it attracted lots of attention, generating an abundance of discussion of his core concepts. Also, the process of adopting his ideas (many of which at first seemed counterintuitive, if not precious and naive) was complicated by the globalization of culture. Focus shifted to distributed audiences around the world. Anderson was asked for additional examples of Long Tail effects outside the digital realms of media and entertainment. He certainly could not cover all of the extensions in fashion, travel, organic and "artisanal" food, and even alcohol as indicated by -- to cite one example -- Anheuser-Busch's embrace of niche beers, the establishment of Long Tail Libations, and the increased number of beers from 26 brands in 1997 to 80 in 2007. Given the fact that change continues to be the only constant in the global business world, think of this revised and updated edition as only the latest update on some Long Tail developments thus far.

This book takes on the ambitious task of addressing both the B2C and B2B aspects of e-commerce, full of good insights and constructive advice in both areas. Mr. Taylor and Ms. Terhune combine the best of their experience from Gartner with new, independent research and conclusions, all written in an entertaining, informative way. The Complete Guide to Affiliate Marketing on the Web: How to Use and Profit from Affiliate Marketing Programs ReviewThis book is a must have for anyone who seriously wants or is toying with the idea of Affiliate Marketing. Brown takes you through the entire process from getting started to choosing a software application right for you to how to market and promote your site. He explains the ins and outs of Affiliate Marketing on the Web in language anyone can understand, even if you're not smarter than a fifth grader.
Do you know the difference between residual and flashflood traffic techniques? How about pay per click as opposed to pay per lead? I didn't. However, after reading this book I certainly have been educated in the lingo associated with Affiliate Marketing. Brown also manages to take the guess work out of Google.
You don't have to be a web designer to apply the techniques, but if you're somewhat computer savvy it's beneficial. Brown doesn't present a get rich quick scheme, but instead delivers a sure fire way to get more traffic to your site and more money in your pocket. He doesn't lead you down the garden path and his book will definitely help you travel the road to success.

It is an introductory level book. That is to say, it will get you started, but by the time you have a working site, you will have learned a lot more than in your specialized areas than is covered here. This book provides the basic introduction. Do you want a shopping cart type application or perhaps an auction? What about peer-to-peer file sharing or perhaps a blog? This book will talk about these initial decisions that have to be made before you start thinking about the guts of implementing them. After these decisions are made you'll need more detailed books on the specific area where you are going.

100 Ways To Make $100 A Day Online ReviewWhile this book had a few ideas, it was pretty much a generalized rehashed list of ideas that i have heard of before. And you probably have, too!
I bought the kindle edition, and the resource links did not work. Each of the 100 items had what was supposed to be a resource link after it, and it looked to me to be nothing more than the author promoting his own affiliate business through this ebook. I have a strong feeling if the links would have worked, I would have been asked to pay for "further information" once I was at that stage. One of the resources that were named, I Googled, and it came up to be a reported scam on a national news web page. The saying goes,
